Awww, Cute! He's Building up his Immune System!

Why is it that babies prefer to chew on the things they know they aren't supposed to? And how do they even know what those things are? Seriously, Henry's freaking and no toys will calm him? Hand him a cell phone. Or a wallet. Or my headband. Or the cat's tail....I guarantee you the crying will stop the second it's in his hands. Even with the ridiculous amount of toys Henry has access to on a daily basis, he'd much rather play with the forbidden.

The other day I laid a bunch of his favorite toys out on the floor around him and left the room to help the other kids wash their hands. When I came back, this is what I found:

What's that weird toy he passed up the happy neon plastics for?

Oh, it's just the DOG BONE. You know, that disgusting one that both dogs drag through the mud everyday. The one that has been around the house since I started working here a year ago? The one that has probably been pooped on at least once. Niiiice.

And just like everything, where does it end up?

Henry says, "IN MUH MOUTH!! MMMMMMMM....."
I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when this kid actually starts crawling. Omg.

could you please vote for us today? we'd really like to stay on the front page! thanks!

Ooooh yes. I know all too well about the forbidden. Bennett's favorite things are my cell phone, the remote control and the dogs ears. I really wish he'd love and appreciate all the cool toys we bought him. Ha ha. BUT no such luck. Mr. Grabby Grabberton must have the things that are off limits, all the time. I will never understand this about babies.

haha Kingston does the exact thing I just did a facebook status about this today. Out of all his toys (he has tons) he chooses the dog toys or the dog bone. He also wants the dog bowl too which we know is just the cleanest water ever.

Silly babies!!

it is pretty crazy how they love random crap. but honestly, wyatt is starting to really dig his toys now. i never would have thought.

somewhere around age two or so, he'll start playing with the toys you have spent all your money on. he'll still want the forbidden, but will gradually become distracted by cars, trains, trucks, etc. hang in there :)

Dude, they KNOW. I loved this post--it's too true. Although Sofia has rather fancied corn dogs lately which are food. Here's the catch (as you know, there is ALWAYS a catch) she only likes them when SHE can make them! "How does that even happen?" one might ask. Well, let me tell you.
I put her in bed for her nap, and I get in the shower. While I'm in the shower, she gets out of bed, gets a corn dog from the freezer, drags a chair over to the counter, puts the corn dog in the microwave and hits start (which automatically selects 1min on my microwave) YEAH. Not even joking you. This has happened TWICE. And then she just walks into the bathroom (to shower with me--I miss showering alone. haha!) like "What up? Eatin' a corndog, gonna take a shower."

Oh man. We are going to be in trouble when they start crawling.

This continues to prove my point that we shouldn't buy kids expensive toys...they just want cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and now dog chew toys. :)

Mandy: Yes! Animal ears are one of Henry's favorite grabables too! It's like they were specially designed for little babes to hold onto...poor pets!

shawntae: we don't have a dog yet, but he is already so into the dogs things at work. the kids i watch are always in the slimy dog water...yuk!

ashley: i think they should make toys for babies that LOOK like dog toys, or cell phones, or real remotes. then they won't have to chew the gross ones (or maybe they still would??)

bri: it's pretty funny!

vic: luckily i've worked with kids a ton so i've never been too obsessed over the whole germ thing. actually this might be a bad thing, sometimes!

jess: that's good to hear! henry does have two or three toys that he will play with, but that's it! it's really weird because all the baby toys are so bright and some even make noise and have lights that flash. oh henry.

allegra: how are you! i haven't heard from you in so long! very good to know that they eventually find their real toys entertaining!

heidi: YES! YES! the shoes for henry too. gahhh.

paige: omg, seriously? that is the cutest story i have heard in a long, long time. what a smarty!

chelsey: yes, totally. i'd better start baby proofing asap!

ashley: we feel the same way! at home henry has only a small box of toys. while we're at work though he has a bunch to play with. and still he chooses the dog's toys. so true!

Haha! I'm glad I'm not the only whose baby gets into everything that's off-limits! Jackson is obsessed with the dog's disgustingly slobbered on toys, water dish, or bowl full of kibble. Seriously?! I think babies are a LOT smarter than we give them credit for!
