First Baby Outfits!

Today we each picked out an outfit for Baby (Henry? Elliot?). We had so much fun looking through the size: tiny clothes and ooo-ing and aww-ing over them all. Okay, mostly it was me making the rediculous noises...although G was pretty into his outfit choice.

And yes, mom. Those are weiner dogs on the sleeper. ;-)

Fried Pickles.

Oh my. Tonight we went to a restaurant called the Distillery with our new and lovely friends from Oregon. It is fun to hang out with people about as homesick for the beautiful Northwest as we are. I have always heard of fried pickles (I think they used to have them at the Beaver in Bellingham), but never tried them. Until tonight. Fried pickles just might be my new favorite thing. Spicy pickle spears covered in some kind of cream cheese (?) and then coated again in a bread batter. Fried to a crisp and served warm with thousand island dressing. Yum. I wish I had never ordered them because now that I know what they taste like, it's going to be real hard not to order them at every place that puts them on the menu.

And this totally isn't just a pregnancy thing. They are seriously just good.

Havingababyitsaboy.

We're having a boy and we really couldn't be any more excited! I was so afraid that the baby wouldn't be moving enough for the ultrasound technician to see his/her parts so I drank about three glasses of orange juice (for the sugar) and ate a cupcake. Then I said, "Dance baby..." and that sugar jolt was all he needed. Everything looks great and all of the organs and bones are forming perfectly. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight! YAY!

Waiting (not so) Patiently.

In just a couple hours, we (hopefully) get to find out if we are having a boy or a girl. This is one of the most exciting days I have had in a long time and the fact that this only happens once within a pregnancy makes it so special and fun. Of course along with the good stuff always comes the scary side of things...I'm so nervous because the baby's organs are so developed now that if something is wrong, they will be able to tell by this ultrasound. Talk about nerve wrecking! I hardly slept last night, I feel like I drank a half gallon of milk and then swallowed a bunch of vinegar...my stomach is so upset.

This will be the first time G has seen baby on the ultrasound, I know it's going to blow his mind. There really is no way to prepare yourself for seeing something like that. It's strange, you can imagine over and over what it will be like and think that you've prepared yourself for every possible feeling imaginable and then you see the baby moving and you realize that there was no way you could have prepared yourself for that, because the feeling you get is one that you've never felt before. It's a completely new emotion that you never realized you had until that moment.

I can't believe that we have already reached this point in the pregnancy, I wish things would just slow down!

For the record, although we would both really like a boy I have always felt like we are having a girl.

Wish us luck!

Another Baby Blog? Great....

For family and friends that care, I'm going to start posting pictures of my stomach (this one's for you Meg!) which is only going to get enormous from here on out. I promise them to at least be interesting/funny/awwww/gross/weird/cute. If you're into any of those things then this will be your kind of site. It's one of the hardest things, not having family and friends around to share this scary and memorable time in our life. I'd rather just hop on my bike, ride to my family's house and say, "See! My stomach's bigger! Feel the baby move!" but unfortunately that would be a super long bike ride. I guess peeking in on us through the internet is better than nothing at all.

Here's the progress so far! Now that the shock is wearing off, this whole experience is way more fun and interesting than I ever imagined it being! It's also going by much faster than I wish it would. I want to enjoy each moment of this, but it's just not possible...time keeps ticking away.

14 weeks

18 Weeks (tomorrow!)

This Friday (August 11th) we get to go to the doctor and find out whether we're having a boy or a girl. Start placing your bets now.

The family I nanny for (SO lucky to have met them!) just gave us a BUNCH of their old baby things. They passed on a crib, swing, jumper, highchair, bedding, breast pumps (hot!), and a walker. Here is a picture of the crib and, of course, one of Cat testing the crib for comfort (or planning on how to best attack/eat the baby?) What would this blog be without her?

Just a month ago I was freaking out because I had lost two jobs. Now that I've been working with this family, I am beginning to really believe that everything works for a reason and that there is some weird path to life that we can't control. I was never meant to have those jobs, I was supposed to be right here all along and I just couldn't see it.
