Garrison Rules.

Welp. I didn't do as well as I thought I would on my test yesterday morning. I'm trying not to beat myself up over it, I mean I definitely put the time in to studying and preparing. Who knows, maybe I did better than I think and I'll find out that I passed anyway. I have to wait a whole freaking month to find out though! This test basically qualifies me to teach in the state of Georgia and also is required for me to begin the student teaching semester of my graduate program. So I'm really really hoping that I passed.

I came home pretty bummed yesterday but you know what? Garrison had cleaned the entire house while I was away. The whole house! He had made Henry "muffin pancakes" for breakfast and mini pizzas for lunch and taken him on a bike ride to the park. Basically, they had the best day ever. On top of cleaning, Garrison arranged a babysitter so that we could go out and unwind after my crappy day of testing. Have I mentioned that I love this husband of mine? Best one ever.

In other news, my mom sent Henry these dragon shoes in the mail last week and he LOVES them. We love them too because it's hilarious to watch him try and walk in them, they're way too big and super clunky. Whenever we come back to the house, he actually takes off his sandals and changes into his dragon shoes. And when he wakes up in the morning he says, "I needa put my dragon shoes on!" Henry's also discovered face paint and he's pretty into it. The first time I showed it to him, he freaked out and refused to "have a kitty face". It wasn't until after I did it that he agreed to try. This is a really fun age!

And last week we were watching Nicki Minaj on some morning show and Henry said, "I like her red pajamas!" Call it like it is, Henry. HAHA!

Schooled.

I've been so stressed out lately! This huge test on Saturday has me all worried; I've basically been spending every ounce of free time studying. Good Lord I even read this huge test prep book while I run on the treadmill at the gym. Nerdy and lame, I know. I need to pass this test in order to qualify for student teaching in the Spring. Blah. Wish me luck (and lots of it).

Anyway, sometimes my stress levels reach WHOA!! and I get all crazy b-word on everyone. I'm sure I'm awesome and fun to be around lately (just ask my husband). Yesterday morning, Henry was running around the house with a ball of yarn, yelling at the cat as it ripped around the house scratching everything with his stupid claws. 5 minutes into this "game" and Henry had strung the entire living room with a web of brown yarn. I turned just in time to see our porcelain deer fly off the table as a piece of string hooked its antlers. "HENRY!!!" I yelled as I watched it break. "I can't believe this! What the heck?!" I said.

Henry looked at me with an apologetic grin and said, ".....But.... it's just a deer thing, mom!" And I realized that he was right. It is "just a deer thing". A silly little piece of crap that we got for nothing at the thrift store. Henry's comment really made me stop and think. It's so easy to get worked up about the littlest things, but is it really worth it? Isn't it better to just sweat the small stuff and focus on the good? The huge amounts of good that surround you when you're a parent? Easier said than done, I know. But still.

 Lesson learned Henry, thank you.

SK8 or Die

Yesterday we went to a garage sale down the street and the lady just gave Henry this skate board! He was all excited to try it as soon as we got home, but he got frustrated when he realized he couldn't balance. I think he just assumed it would be super easy because all the other skaters can stand on their board like no big whoop. Just like me, Henry has absolutely no patience for something he can't get right the first time...so we put the board away until Garrison came home. And then it was skate or DIE in the parking lot across the street. Dad is waaaay cooler than mom.

Henry loves doing this, he'll easily spend a whole hour in there. Watching Henry swim around in this thing totally reminds me of when my parents would give my little sister a bath in the bright orange cooler whenever we were camping.

When your baby is new, you're super afraid to let him out of your sight. Then he reaches this age where   you know he'll be perfectly fine without you. This age is awesome! Yesterday Garrison took Henry to see a visiting dinosaur exhibit. I quickly packed up a book bag full more diapers than they'd ever need, a pair of pants, toys and stickers, apple juice, and snacks and watched them drive away. When they came home, Henry was smiling so huge and jumping all around the house yelling, "Dinosaurs!...TREX!....Muffins!...wewentonaboat!....StegaSAURUS!..."

Ice Cream at the Beach

It's just been too hot to do much during the day this summer. One of our current favorite things has been driving to the beach before sunset, the only time it's somewhat bearable to be outside. Last time we went, we promised Henry a huge ice cream cone and didn't follow through because he forgot and, well, we we'rent exactly stoked about the whole sugar before bedtime thing anyway. Of course, he remembered as soon as we got home and then we felt like big jerkfaces. So this time, we made sure he got his ice cream cone. Garrison and I held onto each other's wastes and watched our not so little boy running in the waves and eating his cone. How did he get so big, so fast? This thought has been in my mind a lot these days.

I love love these family summer nights.

Not related, but I have to brag...This last semester was crazy! I'm doing really really well in school and thought for sure that this summer would bring me my first B. I worked so hard, staying up until 2 in the morning some nights just to make sure I had my assignments right. I took this picture last week at 2:30 am, basically sums up how I felt the majority of this semester:

NOT ANYMORE. Just got my grades back and I got all As! I deserve to brag because this stuff is not easy once your two year old realizes that your technology is also a magical portal to Barney and Angry Birds. School starts again in two weeks and I have this huge test for teacher certification coming up so I'll be getting things ready for that and studying super hard. I'm so close to being done! I'm almost a teacher!   :)
